As we live in a Post-September 11, 2001 world, it has never been more urgent to be prepared and to help each other.

The Virginia Defense Force is a service for the common good and has a proud Virginia heritage (see History page). Born in the earliest days of our nation’s history, voluntary services by and for the citizens of Virginia was a cornerstone upon which our nation was built. Today that spirit still thrives in the citizen soldier. Bringing diverse professional skills and talents, Virginians continue to unselfishly answer the call of their fellow citizens in times of crisis, disaster, emergency or need as members of the Virginia State Defense Force.

Our units are built with a healthy variety of backgrounds: veterans of our great American military, individuals that want to get a taste of what military life may be like, and individuals that may not be able to serve in one of the five branches of the U.S. military, but want to serve their country and their state. Each brings their area of expertise from the public and/or private sectors With the diverse background of each of these types of soldiers, we are a strong force that can handle many types of situations for the benefit of our fellow Virginians.
